There is a lot of discussion about what the accountant and the finance profession of the future will look like. One thing is very clear - finance professionals will need to have a different mindset and a range of new skills to remain competitive and function in the new volatile and AI-enhanced world. The finance profession will also need to adapt to face the oncoming challenges. The finance education landscape is changing too. After the adaptation to a new reality with the emergence of online learning, educators and learners are now looking for personalised and innovative ways to gain their knowledge and skills.
Focus on upskilling
More than at times of stability, CEOs and country leaders turn to finance professionals in times of crises to help them gather required data, analyse financial information, strengthen processes and institutions and make difficult decisions. With the onset of AI and expanding sustainability accounting, reporting and assurance requirements, the capabilities that finance professionals have are essential to making sure that both of these themes are integrated into business and government operations seamlessly, cost-effectively and ethically. But to maintain this important role and act with impact, finance professionals must be competent, knowledgeable and possess the skills required in the context of uncertainty, disruption and rapid digitisation. They must continuously upskill and update their capabilities to stay relevant.

Learning and skills development
Every organisation's learning and development needs are different depending on its type, objectives and strategy. We work together with our partners in the public and private sectors to develop tailored learning programmes and courses which are designed specifically for their needs. It could be a short one-day seminar on leadership skills for PFM officers or an in-depth 80-hour certification course on IPSAS implementation.
We have the expertise in designing competency frameworks, developing learning syllabi, programs and course assessments, and delivering training courses, practical workshops and knowledge seminars. We design and deliver for our partners both fundamental level capacity-building initiatives as well as provide international exposure through multidimensional knowledge-sharing and training events.
Focus on the future of education
The disruptions of recent years at all levels of the education system has left many students with knowledge gaps and sub-optimal learning experiences impacting their academic performance and future career prospects. University closures, accelerated, and not always effective, move into the online learning space, remote assessment and reduced contact hours have caused havoc that many institutions are still recovering from. Yet, this is also a great opportunity for reassessment of finance education: how today's approaches to teaching link to tomorrow's skills and competencies required of future finance professionals, and how technological innovation can support new learning models. There is definitely a visible increase in demand for better access, flexibility, adaptability and personalisation of learning as well as demonstration of a direct relationship between the curriculum and a future career in finance.

Education consulting
The role of higher education institutions (HEIs) has become more prominent in creating a pipeline of future-ready finance professionals. Education is on the agenda of most governments who are realising that it is a key driver of economic growth, a tool for elevating countries out of poverty and an incubator for innovation.
Steps are being taken towards investing greater amounts of money into strengthening HEIs and liberalising higher education sector for private investment. HEIs, whether state-funded or private, are brilliantly positioned to support this agenda but many need support in bringing ideas to life through restructuring, transformation and modernisation.
The LMC team has a long history of working with HEIs. Our experts can help with strategy development and implementation, business-process transformation, tutor upskilling, syllabus and assessment alignment to international standards and accreditation.
